Canadian-born Kidder appeared in more than 70 movies and TV shows, but became famous in the 1980's for playing Superman's love interest, Lois Lane, in the films opposite Christopher Reeve. However, her life took a dark turn after she became injured in a motor vehicle accident in 1990, becoming unable to work for some 2-years. She then slid into bankruptcy, then a few years later, suffered a mental health breakdown. In a highly publicized episode she disappeared for four days and spent time as a homeless person. She was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
